God of War Ragnarök

There is no exact information about when the game will take place, but it will take place about three years after God of War since Fimbulwinter saw the death of Magni, Modi, and Baldur, with both Freya and Thor seeking retribution against Kratos and Atreus.

With Ragnarok, the series will move on to a game based on Norse mythology and set in ancient Norway. Kratos, and his son Atreus, will also be appearing in this game.

PlayStation Plus has experienced one of its strongest months in quite some time. Not only do these games range widely across genres, so there is something here for everyone, but the majority of these titles are fairly new as well.

Release Rumours

In 2018, Sony Santa Monica Studios announced it would release God of War: Ragnarok sometime in 2022, a follow-up to the over-the-top and grandiose action-adventure series starring Kratos. The 2020 PlayStation 5 reveal event revealed that Kratos and Atreus were returning again as they explored more of the Norse realms and faced off against more powerful deities seeking revenge. During the PlayStation Showcase in September, God of War: Ragnarok was revealed in even more detail and a brand new trailer was unveiled. Since then, not much has been revealed about the upcoming sequel. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming game so far.

Sony describes Atreus in Ragnarok as being “desperately curious,” which means he wants to know who he is more than anything. This time, he wants to know who he could be. “It is impossible for Atreus to ignore the mystery of Loki’s role in the upcoming conflict. While he wants to keep his family safe, he cannot stand by and allow a conflict to consume the Nine Realms.”

1. Atreus: The son of Kratos from his second marriage.

2. Mimir: An intelligent man from the realm of Mimir.

3. Thor: The father of Magni & Modi, the eldest son of Odin.

4. Tyr: The Norse God of War, son of Odin, and mother of Baldur.

5.  Angrbooa: One of the last non-Fire Jötnar and widow of Loki.

6. Freya: The mother of Baldur, former wife of Odin, and mother of Baldur.

7. Brok & Sindri: Member of the Huldra brothers who forged the Leviathan Axe.

8. Durlin: was the second dwarf made after his predecessor, Mótsognir.

Ragnarok features Freya and Thor as two of the main characters. Freya was a friend of Kratos, but after he killed her son, Baldur, she sought revenge. The team wanted to emphasize Freya’s strengths as a warrior in her own right, not just her ability to utilize Vanir’s magic. Enraged by Kratos’ evasion of justice, Freya will use her full arsenal in order to take revenge on him.

Both Freya, the one-time ally turned enemy, and Thor, who lost family to Kratos and Atreus, will be the main antagonists. We only saw brief glimpses of both characters, but they both seem driven to revenge, just as Kratos used to be when he was the Greek god. It is particularly interesting to know Richard Schiff will play Odin, king of the Norse gods.

Despite its ugliest appearance, the game looks fantastic, and Kratos’ Leviathan Axe and Blades of Chaos can be used in more ways than ever before. There’s also the familiar boat, and the disembodied head Mimir returns, so Kratos’ perpetually grumpy mood is sure to be brought front and center in this story.
